Nanofiber technology has allowed filters in dust collectors to be able to collect smaller particles than before. This is done by using less fan and compressed air energy, with the filters lasting longer and needing less maintenance than other filters.
The nanofiber is applied through a spraying process to the filter’s surface which creates a higher filtering layer with increased efficiency and the option for cleaning opportunities. When the nanofibers are measured against the original fibres of the filter they are approximately 100 nanometres, while the original fibres are a larger 20 microns.
This allows for easy and efficient cleaning with all of the dust being removed, extending the life span of the filter. This ability to clean the filters completely of dust creates many benefits. Being able to clean the filters completely of dust allows for lower operating pressure drops, increased airflow at capture points, less cleaning cycles and less compressed air usage all resulting in lower operating costs and an increase in system efficiency. With filters being able to be cleaned so efficiently smaller dust collectors can be used, energy can be reduced and maintenance can be scheduled less frequently. This all contributes to a cost-effective decision.
Since nanofiber cartridge filters are fast becoming the standard for the future, more and more dust collectors are going to be making use of this technology. Nederman, manufacturer of quality dust collectors, supplied by Envirox, has recently introduced nanofiber cartridge filters into their already comprehensive range. The new 178 cartridge filter which is a blended paper with nanofiber technology can be used in different Nederman units, such as the MCP and LCP dust collectors, as well as mobile extractors such as FilterBox and FilterCart.
- The LCP Dust collector is suitable for corrosive dust applications. It is ideal for free-flowing dust applications and can be used for continuous use. This dust collector can be fitted with different cartridge types for many different applications – CA100, 140, 141, 150, 178 AND 190.
- The MCP dust collector is a Atex certified, multi-purpose cartridge dust collector suitable for smoke fumes, dust and combustible dust.
- The FilterCart range includes nanofiber and ePTFE filter technology. The nanofiber filters are disposable for this mobile extractor, which is ideal for welding fume extraction.
- The FilterBox range is a portable dust collector range equipped with nanofiber cartridges and is suitable for welding fume and other dust extraction (not suitable for combustible fumes). This can be used as a mobile unit or as a fixed mounted unit.
Nanofiber technology is set to continue to grow, making dust extraction even more effective and efficient, with smaller particles less likely to escape into the air. This will create an even safer environment with less possibility of inhalation or explosions. Envirox is excited for this new development and is available to help you with all your dust collector needs, and provide further information on these new, improved cartridge filters.
